  1. Call to Order – President Rodriguez called the meeting to order at 6:13pm

    • General members present: Tabita Rodriguez, Taylor Hampton, Ellen O’Donnell

  3. Old Business
    • Spring Beautification along East Main Street – KCAR (Klamath County Association of Realtors) put out flyer about the June 12th work day. Hope to borrow tools from the Klamath Tool Library (Sustainable Klamath). Isabel is following up with individuals who expressed an interest in helping on June 12th. Taylor will distribute the work day information to Dragonfly Transitions. Will also share to the Youth Without Borders facebook page.
    • KCAR donation for beautification project – $500 donation in response to the proposal that Isabel put together and presented to the group. Thank you, KCAR!
    • East Main Beautification Project this Saturday, June 12th – Sponsored by KCAR. Get in touch with Isabel if you are able to volunteer.
  4. New Business
    • Picket for Playground at Moore Park – Isabel proposed that MNA purchase a $100 picket to help support the building of the new playground. Taylor described the different levels of giving. Merritt at Healthy Klamath has more info and can be reached by email. Some of the play equipment is already paid for/there is a sponsor. Patrick asked if there was a plan for what to do with the old playground equipment once it’s removed. Will do some more research to answer this question.
    • Suggestions for more involvement from the neighborhood – volunteers needed for projects, especially landscape projects. Would like MNA to be more recognized within the neighborhood – reputation for improving the neighborhood.
    • Purchase of skip ball toys for Third Thursday – Isabel will price out and get back to the group.
  5. Public Comment
    • Taylor – Nutrition Hub working on becoming part of the Klamath-Lake County Food Bank network. Hoping to start operation of a food pantry in December. June 29th is the Park ‘N Play kickoff for the summer. Will be at Mills-Kiwanis park. May be offering COVID vaccines during the event. Will be walk-up only, no drive-thru option. More details to come after the planning meeting of the Child Hunger Coalition. Lunch will be provided at the park.
    • Free fishing this weekend! Details will be posted to our facebook group
    • Klamath County Library now has a “library of things” – more than just books that you can borrow and use. Located at the Main Branch of the library.

  3. Treasurer’s Report – Annual IRS form 990-N filed for 2020. Account balance: $1,601.71
  4. Approval of Minutes:
    • March 16: notice of meeting cancelation, unanimous approval.

  5. Old Business
    • Cost of replacement flags – in progress
    • Cost of booth at 3rd Thursday for July and August – discussion about options and cost. Patrick motioned to pay the $35 booth fee and for us to serve limeade. 2nd: Minea. Will do a practice run setting up the booth and pricing out supplies on June 10th at 4pm at 601 East Main parking lot. Need 4 people to run the booth. Event goes from 6 – 8:30pm. Plan to serve 16 oz. of limeade with ice for $2. Paper cups.
    • Proposal to Klamath County Association of Realtors for beautification of East Main Street Corridor – Plan to get people together on June 12th (Saturday) to complete the work in the proposal sent to KCAR. They will cover $500 of the cost of the project. Will create letter to businesses on East Main letting them know what we plan to do and to encourage them to participate.
  1. New Business
    • Donation received from private individual – Sherry McManus gave a check donation of $1,183.06 to MNA. We all signed a thank you card and intend to send her an official tax receipt. Thank you so much, Sherry!
    • Reimbursement of $10 for Isabel – she purchased an antique metal canister as a thank you for Sherry’s donation. All board members approved of the reimbursement.

  2. Roll Call

    • General members present: Efren Gutierrez, Taylor Hampton, Tabita Rodriguez
  3. Old Business
    • Review of Spring Recycle Event – Would like to do the event again. The weather was not the best, but there were drop-offs for every type of material we advertised. Made $100 on the raffle (split 50/50 between MNA and Sustainable Klamath)
    • Food samples for decision on Third Thursday Booth – Isabel spoke with someone from County health, and got more details about the requirements for serving food at the event. $40 fee for booth. Basic food safety requirements – must have running water, refrigeration. They did not recommend any electrical appliances needing to be plugged in. Could use propane. Food that Isabel prepared for this meeting to taste test: elotes (corn on the cob with mayo, cheese, and picante seasoning), limeade, nachos.
      • Other thoughts about the event: limeade (not expensive to make, doesn’t compete with lemonade at event). Raffle for yard art – Isabel shared pictures of retired bowling balls painted to look like bees, ladybugs, and other garden creatures.
  4. New Business
    • Sunday Swap Meet – Community Market was successful last year, despite COVID. No other activities on Sundays in town – would be great to have an event Sunday afternoons. Swap Meets and yard sales are very popular in our town. Will explore this idea further…
    • Proposal for Sponsorship for Mills Neighborhood Rejuvenating of East Main Street – KCAR would like to sponsor this effort. Will work to put together a former proposal for KCAR to review.
  5. Public Comment
    • Food pantry will be going in at this IYS building. Freezer and dry goods, working with Klamath-Lake County Food Bank. Patrick – Look into Coolbot device, which can turn a room into a cooler.
    • The club that Taylor is a part of at OIT is selling birdhouses. They will be for sale at the Nutrition Hub. Sidewalk tiles and art contest – Taylor’s friend is working on a $250 grant to support the project. Waiting on more info.
    • Movie production company is scouting locations with 1960s-style homes. Dave’s barber shop is an option. Any homeowners interested in participating should contact Kaitlin.

    • Third Thursday Event – July start. Sell funnel cakes as a fundraiser. Need 4 volunteers and an activity for kids.
    • Midge Festival Event – Volunteers needed. $30/booth – covers both days?

    • Aprons have been completed – excited to use them!
    • Recycling event for Earth Day – Saturday, April 24, 9:00 to 4:00 – Mattresses, glass (except window pane glass), household batteries, scrap metal. Tables set up for Sustainable Klamath, REACH. Will have a raffle with gift certificates from E. Main businesses.
    • New Flags – need to figure out size and material
  4. New Business
    • Donation pledged – KCAR (Klamath County Association of Realtors) would like to sponsor activities to beautify E. Main.
    • Third Thursday – Planned to begin in July. Taylor: for a nonprofit to have their booth fee at Third Thursday waived, need to have a free activity. Youth Without Borders did a cornhole game in the past.
    • Midge Festival – Planned for Aug. 27 & 28 at Veterans Park. Will be sponsored by Klamath County Vector Control. Isabel would like to develop a “Midge Smoothie” for the event.
    • Open House for Nutrition Hub – Soft open tomorrow, grand opening on Friday (4/9). Lots of resources, “health equity”, internet access, transportation, summer survey revealed that many people didn’t know about food options for their kids. Considering mailing information directly to peoples’ homes.

    • We are donating the scarecrows that were donated to us to Sustainable Klamath.
    • Pickets for fence around new playground at Moore Park. Would be nice to have an MNA picket.
    • Grants for home improvements from Klamath County. There is a waiting list. Add your name to the waiting list so that the program can have more money available next year (demonstrating need)
    • Kendra Santiago is with the Downtown Association now.
    • Top Notch – selling plants and other things
    • More lights are going up around IYS building. MNA appreciates all the new lights that have been installed on East Main Street!
